Still in early stages of labor...
8:30pm AZ and Still waiting.. Katie is doing great, she is still having regular contractions and is 3cm dialated. They started giving her potocin to regulate the contractions about an hour ago. Water has not broken yet; no stong drugs needed yet.
To go back in time a bit to earlier in the day, Katie was up most of the night with what we now understand is what they call "bloody show" which was basically blood spotting or bits of mucus . She got on the internet at 3:30am to research what she was experiencing between frequent trips to the bathroom. Needless to say she didn't get a lot of sleep. Our doctor told us to head straight to the hospital if there is any blood at all so in the morning, at 9am we headed to the hospital. They checked her out for a few hours and said this blood was perfectly normal. At that point, she was not dialated at all and told us to go home, that she was not in labor. They confirmed our appt for 10am friday to induce labor if it hadn't taken place yet. We thought this meant there was no way she would go into labor anytime soon.
During lunch, Katie was experiencing back pains. This became intense and started to occur at regular intervals. We started to keep track of these pains and they seemed to occur for about 20-45 seconds and about 5mins apart. We slowly started to realize that these may in fact be contractions. After 2 hours with the stop watch, we decided to back our bags and head back to the hospital (much easier after our morning trial run!) We arrived back at the hospital at 5pm thinking that they may turn us away for the second time. We had the same triage nurse who noticed Katie was laughing/joking about our return and said that is not a good sign of labor. Although Katie noted that she wasn't laughing between contractions! Anyways, at 6:30pm we passed the test (whatever that may have been) and were given a room. It's a nice big room with TV, couch chair but no fridge or pool table :( They had her walk the hallway for about an hour or so the ease the pain of the contractions.
I will try to post an update every few hours as long as the internet connection holds out. I am well equipped now with a laptop and Apple iTouch.
